“When I have a camera in my hand, I know no fear.” Alfred Eisenstaedt
The camera gives no power. That strength comes from the way you look at things. It is said that a true photographer never forgets any of his or her images. They continue to be seen in the mind of the photographer, and continue to breathe, and share life and meaning.
The camera becomes a medium that projects an image straight into the soul of the photographer. A photograph is a chance of a transcendental experience, that connects the visible to the unseen chords that are entangled into the spirit of the person that records the moment. The resulting image is a very intimate and unique way to know a person, provided that a line of communication is open.
As a photographer myself, I have experienced the fearlessness that comes from having a camera in my hand. The surrounding reality is transfigured by the way you look at it. Wayne Dyer, the sage man, noticed that “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”. There is a spiritual power that comes from looking at the essence, at the core of what is around you.
This is when photography becomes more than just recording a banal, mundane reality. There is no mundane at the core, and some of the most important questions may find pathways to answers. This is what makes a photograph unforgettable to the mind of the photographer: the experience of a deeper meaning, the reality of the invisible, the reading between the lines of what is tangible.
Please take a camera in your hand, and go out and explore the world around you. I promise you that your inner world will become more populated, more colorful, and both the light and the shade will confide their stories to you.
