As Toastmasters' founder Ralph Smedley said, “We learn best in moments of enjoyment.” So, despite having serious goals, we at Fluor Communicators always find fun, exciting, and engaging ways to achieve them. This encourages members and guests to participate and, as I like to say, add their shade of colour to the canvas that is our club.

Hello, and a warm Toastmasters welcome! I’m Arobo Ako, your spirited past president of the
Fluor Communicators Club for the 2022-2023 term. It’s fantastic to see your curiosity spark
here, whether you’re pondering a first-time visit or considering joining our unique band of
speakers and leaders in the making. Trust me, joining Toastmasters is like entering a labyrinth of
growth. Each meeting an adventure in public speaking, leadership, camaraderie, and yes, an
occasional plot twist in overcoming the jitters!
Reflecting on my time as president, one lesson stands out: growth is only awkward until it’s awesome. I remember my early days when my mind would race faster than my words. But each stammer, each slip, each "umm" transformed into milestones on the journey to confidence. Here at Fluor Communicators, we embrace our quirks and laugh through the rough patches together. There’s a kind of magic in learning from the good, the bad, and the downright hilarious moments we all share.
So, if you're here to sharpen skills, share stories, or just survive delivering your first table topic, you’re in good company. Welcome to the club where laughter and learning go hand in hand, and where each meeting is a step closer to the leader and communicator you never knew you could be!
